About Aware

About

Aware by Tekuno is a study of art and culture that reflect principles found in chadō, the ritual of the Japanese tea ceremony. The pieces selected are intended to document creative endeavors that inspire, magnify, and contemplate the philosophy of chadō beyond the tea room—and in fact, in our daily lives.

The name of this blog, Aware (哀れ /aɰaɾe/), comes from the phrase mono no aware (物の哀れ /mononoaɰaɾe/): "the pathos of things." It is one of the core tenets of the Japanese tea ceremony and refers to acceptance of the beauty—and inevitability—of impermanence. It might be best described as the "ahh" one makes in understanding of the nature of the universe.

We hope you enjoy this offering.
